Database Developer

We are currently looking for an energetic Database Developer, with a great sense of humour, to join our team. In this role, you will be responsible for high-performance MySQL and MongoDB database design and development supporting our entire data environment – transactional and data warehouse applications.

Salary Range: Salary is commensurate with experience.

We are currently looking for an energetic Database Developer, with a great sense of humour, to join our team. In this role, you will be responsible for high-performance MySQL and MongoDB database design and development supporting our entire data environment – transactional and data warehouse applications.

You will stay on top of best practices, responsible for disseminating that information to the entire software development team. You will have an interest in using the latest open-source technologies and be an advocate for continuous improvement. There will also be data mining, analytics, and reporting projects to lead.

You Will:

  • Provide recommendations on database platforms and technologies
  • Tune and design databases to meet the needs of microsecond processing of highly available web-services
  • Be responsible for full technical design, programming and deployment work in a team environment
  • Develop database maintenance recommendations and plans
  • Create reports and queries to help answer questions about our data
  • Have knowledge of 'big data' and how to effectively provide business intelligence
  • Guide developers and provide best practices on database usage for performance and security
  • Contribute to the evolution and extension of the technical architecture and design
  • Take ownership of tasks and accomplish defined goals
  • Create and document data catalogues, policies and processes

You Have:

  • Degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or related discipline
  • Ability to adapt quickly and develop in-depth technical understanding of new applications and complex technologies
  • A strong interest in databases, particularly open source databases (MySql, MongoDB, Redis etc)
  • Knowledge of data-mining and analytics
  • Knowledge of design patterns and other industry implementation and design best practices
  • An appreciation of the role of data within the company
  • An understanding of business goals and how data policies can affect them
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills
  • A strong understanding of the concepts associated with privacy and data security
  • An appreciation of the benefits of standardization

Hours

This is a 40 hours per week, full-time position.
