CAIRO, May 9 (Reuters) - Egypt's central bank kept interest rates on hold on Thursday at 9.75 percent for overnight deposits and 10.75 percent for overnight lending, the bank said on its website after its monetary policy committee met.
Economists had been split on whether the bank would hold rates steady, with some economists expecting a rate hike to help keep inflation in check. At its last meeting on March 21, the committee raised rates by 50 basis points.
The bank also kept its discount rate unchanged at 10.25 percent.
The government statistics agency said on Thursday that Egyptian annual inflation rose to 8.1 percent in April from 7.6 percent in March.
