April 30 (Reuters) - The following bids, mergers,
acquisitions and disposals were reported by 1000 GMT on Tuesday:
** Anglo-Dutch consumer goods giant Unilever Plc offered to pay as much as $5.4 billion to raise its
stake in its Indian unit, banking on fast-growing spending power
in Asia's third-largest economy.
** Mobile phone retailer Carphone Warehouse said it
was buying out its joint venture partner Best Buy Co Inc
for 471 million pounds ($730 million), ending a five-year
** Photography pioneer Eastman Kodak Co on Monday
cleared the last two hurdles to ending its bankruptcy in one
leap, with an agreement to sell its remaining non-core
businesses to its British pension fund for $650 million.
** Spain's Telefonica has signed a deal to sell 40
percent of its assets in four Central American countries to
Corporacion Multi Inversiones (CMI) for $500 million, as part of
its drive to cut debt.
** Genetic testing specialist Qiagen NV said it
bought privately held U.S. software developer Ingenuity Systems
Inc for $105 million to expand further into genetic sequencing
** Europe's third-biggest insurer Generali said on
Tuesday plans to sell its U.S. life reinsurance unit and its
private banking arm BSI are going on as expected. Generali's
Chief Executive Mario Greco aims to raise 4 billion euros from
non-core asset sales to shore up capital and restore value.
** Japan's Fujitsu Ltd is in late-stage talks to
sell its microcontroller chip business to Spansion Inc
-- a deal that will broaden the U.S. semiconductor company
product line-up so it can better cater to automotive clients,
two sources familiar with the matter told Reuters on Tuesday.
** SoftBank Corp said there is no need to improve
its $20.1 billion bid for 70 percent of U.S. wireless carrier
Sprint Nextel Corp, which has been challenged by a
counter-offer from Dish Network Corp.
